Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has officially announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at his declaration event on March 27, 2026, Madumere described the move as a decisive step driven by conscience, conviction, and the need to align with a platform that better serves the people.
Addressing supporters, party leaders, and members of the press, the former deputy governor said politics goes beyond titles and should remain a vehicle for meaningful service to the people.
He noted that when a political platform no longer reflects the aspirations of the people, it becomes necessary to seek a new path.
Madumere expressed gratitude to the APC for the opportunities it gave him, including serving as Deputy Governor of Imo State from 2013 to 2019.
He said he was leaving the party with fond memories and lasting relationships but stressed that the time had come to move on.
According to him, his resignation was not driven by bitterness but by necessity, accusing the APC of failing to reward loyalty and increasingly marginalising committed members.
He added that the party had deviated from its founding ideals, making it difficult for him to achieve his long-standing political goals of good governance, unity, and societal development.
Reflecting on over two decades in politics, Madumere said his original motivation was to contribute to governance that benefits the majority and promotes fairness and loyalty—objectives he believes are no longer attainable within the APC.
He said his decision to join the PDP followed extensive consultations with family, mentors, and supporters, adding that the party’s philosophy and direction align with his political ideology.
Describing the PDP as a credible and stable alternative, Madumere said he sees his defection as the beginning of a new chapter marked by hope, renewal, and genuine transformation.
He reassured his supporters that the move signals renewed strength rather than uncertainty, pledging continued commitment to service, unity, and development in Imo State.
Madumere emphasised that his defection is not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to deliver better representation and governance.
He outlined his priorities within the PDP to include restoring democratic values, promoting youth empowerment and innovation, and ensuring transparent leadership.
He concluded by thanking his supporters for their loyalty over the years and reaffirming his commitment to advancing a better future for Imo State.
