The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has described the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) as a veritable intervention in community healthcare delivery services.
He stated this Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream two Corps Members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai, Rivers State.
The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman NYSC State Governing Board, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma expressed delight that the increased population of Corps Members deployed to the State was a reflection of the peace, progress and good governance engineered by his administration.
He used the occasion to assure them that his administration would not relent in it's commitment to uplifting the lives of the Youth Corps members.
The governor charged the Corps Members to use the experiences gained at the orientation course to contribute optimally to nation building.
In his welcome address, the State Coordinator NYSC Rivers State, Mr. Moses Oleghe said the Corps Members were eager and willing to leave positive impacts on Rivers State and beyond. .
He the NYSC top management over the years has been intentional in exposing Corps Members to practical life changing experiences which had helped in transitioning them from the life of dependency to independence vital for their growth and development.
Mr. Oleghe thanked the Governor for his continuous support to the NYSC Scheme in the State and appealed for urgent action in executing the 1000 bed space hostel for male and female Corps Members to address the accommodation challenges at the camp.
A total of 3665 Corps Members made up of 1328 males and 2337 females swore to the Oath of Allegiance administered by Justice Florence Fiberesima, who represented the Chief Judge of Rivers State at the event.
