Fifa accused of breaching own rules with Trump award

Fifa’s ethics committee has been urged to investigate president Gianni Infantino after he awarded United States president Donald Trump the inaugural Fifa peace prize, prompting claims he violated the organisation’s political neutrality rules. Human rights group FairSquare submitted a complaint alleging Infantino committed “four clear breaches,” stating that giving such an award to a sitting political leader is itself a breach of Fifa’s duty of neutrality. FairSquare further argues that Infantino has acted beyond his authority and used his position to publicly support Trump through speeches, interviews and social media posts.
